Lindsay

Hi, i’m Lindsay. I'd been using only the cardio machines at the gym, because a fitness instructor told me not to worry about the weights area. Then a friend's brother showed me how to lift, and I trained with him, until the day he texted to say he couldn't make it. I sat in the car park thinking I can't go in on my own, took a deep breath, walked into the after-school rush, used two machines, and left completely overwhelmed. I went back the next day at a quieter time, and bit by bit, with help and a lot of looking things up, I learned my way into the weights area too. I was a single mum of four at the time, with my youngest just two, so when a woman tells me she hasn't got time, I understand.

I qualified as a personal trainer years later, and then only trained friends and my husband while I carried on working as a self-employed private carer. What finally pushed me was watching other women do exactly what I'd done: come in, use a couple of machines, and walk back out, over and over. I knew that feeling from the inside, and I knew what they were missing wasn't confidence, it was information. That's why StrongHer exists.

When my own perimenopause symptoms started, my doctor dismissed me as too young, and it took me three visits over a year before anyone listened. Meanwhile the fitness industry was telling women that the meno belly is inevitable, pushing supplements and special diets, relying on studies done in mice, and now telling everyone to lift heavy without any of the nuance. There's no magic fix, and every woman's symptoms are different, so every woman's plan should be too. I'm not anti-fat-loss: if you want to lose fat, I'll help you, but without giving up everything you enjoy, so it stays off once it's gone.

I practise what I preach. I eat whole foods eighty to ninety percent of the time, and still enjoy meals out, the odd cocktail and dessert. I train four days a week, two lower and two upper, with a conditioning session on top. I'm married to a man I met through the gym (and the pub where I worked, where he came for breakfast with the builders every Friday), who took me to a boot camp on our first date. Between us are my four children: a twenty-two-year-old nut job who runs my admin, a nineteen-year-old trainee plumber, and two girls of sixteen and fifteen. And when I'm not working, I'm out walking a German Shepherd cross and a Jack Russell with far too much attitude.

Hi, i’m Megan. You’ll find me behind the desk at the gym here to help with any inquiries you have. I help with keeping things smooth behind the scenes. My daily catchphrase is: help, my inbox is doing cardio. I love having a chat and a laugh with our clients. I enjoy adding my creative artistic side around the gym and in our advertisement.

When i clock out of the gym I love cooking/baking and trying new recipes. I enjoy reading, going on adventures and getting to know people.

I suffer with PMOS and FND (Functional Neurological disorder) so you may see me around the gym assisted by my walking aids. Before my FND i used to enjoy going out for short walks around my local area.
